Notes on iMac G4(K)
I love retro mods, especially when transparent or semi-transparent cases are involved. Fitting a MacMini in an old G4 iMac and swapping the display is certainly not a small project, but joshua stein did it.
The DockLite solution seems far more elegant, but I get how they ended up on just putting the MacMini in as is. A 3D printed cover for the ports to get connectors a bit more stable and this would be something I would pay money for. I somehow like the aesthetic of the old G4 more than the newer, slimmer iMacs. And as a kiosk system the screen is easily big enough.
I was a bit surprised and not surprised at the same time how easy and how complicated it was to fit a new display panel. All panels I swapped were drop in replacements, so I never had to deal with most of the issue and I certainly did not have to machine a flange.
