Lenovo & SteamOS
It is hard for me to overstate how excited I am that a mainstream manufacturer like Lenovo decided to announce a handheld with SteamOS. Having more hardware ship with a Linux based distribution will hopefully encourage more AAA studios to at least consider Linux support. Deadlock and Marvel Rivals for example are officially supporting Proton. (Rivals had a small hiccup where their anti-cheat banned some Linux gamers, but that was fixed.)
I recently switched my gaming system over to Linux. I still want to write a follow up post now that I had the chance and actually used it for some time, but let me just say that even a gaming "optimised" distribution is not as hands off as SteamOS on my SteamDeck. The experience is not bad. But it is not "drop in replacement for Windows" good.
Microsoft is currently trying really, really hard to make me go all Linux zealot when talking about Windows. But as I find this behaviour more than annoying I will try to formulate this is a measured way. Considering the last few years and Microsofts disregard for their customers a viable alternative for triple-A gaming is in my opinion needed, very much appreciated and the best chance I see for a decent drop in replacement of Windows on a gaming system is SteamOS. But this requires companies not actively removing Linux support from their products in favour of kernel anti-level cheat system that even Microsoft wants so see gone. cough Riot cough
