Happy Holidays 2024

I hope you all will have some amazing holidays, find some time to relax and have a great start into 2025!

I usually do not make any New Years resolutions nor do I make any predictions. However, there was one questions being repeated over and over the last few months: "Where will AI go in 2025". As someone trying out local LLMs, having done some R&D for two products using LLMs and as someone who is more critical than excited for the technology I will try my hand at being a tech oracle.

I do not think we reached peak hype cycle for "AI" yet, so I'll give it one more year of annoying false promises or so before the decline starts. I do not think it'll end up in a niche like bitcoin.

What I think we will see more often is that tools built for people to support them doing their job will emerge. It will require some more companies to fail and get over their delusional "it'll replace people!", which will happen.

There might also be an uptick in copyright infringement lawsuits if no deals with major publishers can be struck. This might either pull the plug from many models or it will water down copyright laws to a point where we could see a larger impact outside of AI. This will play out over years, so it will not happen in 2025, but it will start.

Let us see in a year how far off I was. Remember, this is a prediction, we all do not know what will actually happen.
