anyon_e - DIY laptop
There comes the point in the life of an engineer when they are upset with the state of things and decide to take matters into their own hands. Most of us write some software. Maybe build a keyboard. Maybe do both. But building a whole laptop from scratch is a different level.
Looking at the build process, the build quality, the components and the nice to have features like the mechanical, detachable keyboard the anyon_e is a laptop I would buy if I would be looking for a laptop to run Linux on. I would likely go 1080p and enjoy longer battery life.
The RK3588 SoC seems to be pretty performant even if software support is not fully there yet. With the integrated NPU you can even run some smaller LLMs.
I am curious what Byran could do with some funding and time. A laptop like this might actually be a good fit for Framework. Nothing is easier to repair than what you build from scratch. But the economics might not work out well at scale.
